What is Advanced Biostructural Correction?
Advanced Biostructural Correction is a chiropractic technique that focuses on posture correction. It is an advanced chiropractic treatment because it helps figure out exactly which bone in your spine is out of place.
Why is it better?
The doctor is not relying on his developed sense of touch. Instead he looks at how you respond to the spinal bone being lightly but firmly pressed on.
Most chiropractors will adjust you on a table while you are laying face down. This pushes the bones in a forward direction. If you’ve seen “old people” walking down the street all hunched over you know they don’t need more of this. The bones in their spine have already moved forward and they never got it fixed. As time goes on their problem gets worse.
The chiropractor who uses ABC does things differently and will adjust you starting from a seated position, have you cross your arms in front of you, and then put his hand just below the bone that is needing correction and lower you onto your back. This pushes the bone backward, not forward. This helps straighten up your posture and people feel taller afterwards.
Another thing that is unique to Advanced Biostructural Correction is paying special attention to the first rib which will help you to breathe better. .
The reason that Advanced Biostructural Correction works so well is because you are testing each bone, one at a time.
Your body can sometimes fix itself when something is out of place. You bend or twist and something pops in your back and you feel better. That’s because you have muscles along the spine that can pull it back into place.
ABC checks your back for a direction the bone moved that you can’t fix yourself.
When I check your spine, I push gently on each bone in a forward direction and look to see what happens. If I see your posture worsen then I know that bone is part of the problem.
How is ABC testing done?
In ABC we do a simple test with a chair and a magazine. The magazine is positioned on the chair so that when you sit down only one butt cheek is on it. I ask you “Do you feel even or tilted?” And you will know right away if you are. If you have to think about it you are probably fine. Then we repeat the test on the other side. Same question. Then of the two, which side is more tilted? It will be one way or the other.
Now I know which way your body is leaning. Doing the testing as I talked about above I can find out which bones need correcting.
If you are a chiropractor reading this, the technique is based on the work of Dr. Alfred Brieg and his book Adverse Mechanical Tension in the Central Nervous System. Some of the adjustments also include what is called a “Meningeal Release” and is really amazing.
