How to Need a Chiropractic Adjustment LESS Often

How to Need a Chiropractic Adjustment LESS Often

When people seek out chiropractic care it is usually for one of two reasons. They want to either a) get out of pain or b) achieve a health goal. The goal might be they want to reduce their number of asthma attacks, or maybe they just want to do everything they can to stay healthy and prevent problems, or maybe they want to be totally in alignment for an upcoming 5k race.

For most people though it is choice “A” and the purpose of this blog post is to tell you what you can do so you need a chiropractic adjustment LESS often and how to get the MOST out of your chiropractic adjustment at the same time.

So first we have to assume that you actually are getting adjusted by your chiropractor. That’s great! There’s lots of benefits to getting treatment including feeling better, less stress, sleeping better, more mobility, ability to participate in hobbies and sports, less irritable, better family relationships, and overall happiness. We all want more of that right?

But how can you even More benefit from your chiropractic care? Simple. Start doing all the right things and avoid all the wrong things that got you to be in position “A” to begin with.

Here’s a short list:

  1. Decrease your stress. “Yeah right!” you say. Well maybe it is near impossible to reduce all the stress in your life but I’m sure you could focus on one or two areas where you could begin to do some de-stressing. My acupuncture teacher had it right when he said “there are only 3 areas of life that causes upset or stress. Spouse/Money/Kids” What will you do to improve these areas?

Because let’s face it, those people are not going to change what they do. It’s up to you on how you will handle life’s challenges. I’m not here to tell you what to do with your family/work relationships but when there are diminishing returns on your time/energy/money and the balance is out of whack, and you are unhappy, maybe it’s time for a change.

  1. Eat Right. When you eat, here’s a good rule of thumb. “If God made it, eat it. If man made it, don’t eat it” Why? All the added sugar in most man made foods put additional stress on your pancreas and adrenal glands. Improperly functioning adrenal glands are one of the main causes of lower back problems. This is because of the association between how well certain low back support muscles will work in response to how well your adrenals are working. In other words, adrenals overloaded from stress? Back muscles overloaded. End result is failure to keep your body in alignment and pinched nerves resulting. I see this every single day!

  2. Sleep Enough. Your body needs rest to recover and naturally heal itself. Not enough sleep adds to your stress level. See #2 above

  3. Exercise/Stretch. Exercise keeps your muscles tone and joints flexible. It’s also a great stress reducer. Walking/swimming/bike riding/weight lifting are all good. Exercise and deep breathing help to clear the accumulation of toxins in the lymphatic system. Stretching also helps to reduce injuries from chronic tension in the muscles.

  4. Drink Water. Not coffee, tea, soda pop, alcohol, or milk shakes. Water. It helps to detox your body of waste products and has no caffeine in it. Caffeine is a drug that stimulates your adrenal glands and we already talked about that in #2 above.

  5. Be a safe driver and avoid injuries. Granted, it’s always the “other guy’s fault” when it comes to accidents and sometimes they are unavoidable. Just be alert at all times. No texting while driving or like a recent commercial I saw: no distracted/drunk/drugged driving please!
